Subject: Hello
Subject: Hello
I actually was the one who recorded these shows, we were experimenting with spaced omnis in 1988, we did it at most of the GA shows. in 1987 and 1988.
...
The outdoor omnis sound great. indoor its a little harder. We used CMC4 and 2s capsules into a PCM F-1 Beta prox tape. The mics were spaced about 8-10 ft. Chris Huron helped me, I'm Don Crandall. I think we borrowed the 2s capsules from Doug Oade and I only had cardiods and hyper cardiods. The omnis sound good on a good stereo, on a cheap stereo the don't sound quite as good. As far as I know my masters don't have any dropouts but they might have a few now. we did all three nights at Hampton from the same spot. Glad everyone likes them. Jeff Silberman did spaced omni's in 4/21/84. good recording

Thinking back to 3/27 Portland, ME 30 years ago today, then I remembered this run in Hampton. Forgot how killer this show was. Bobby just dominates Ballad
...
and it really rips from there! To Lay Me Down Break out was super sweet too! Really an amazing day in GD history-saw 86,87,88 and 93 Knick (my last shows ever....). Peace kids!

Hard to quantify these things but in hindsight if I had to choose one this would be it. Saw all Hampton shows starting in 87 and a few prior....many more
...
other venues besides. Something special about this night...so loose, dynamic, it rolls and flows. Hampton was a magical place to see a show....one of the only general admission venue holdouts on the east coast. A small venue for the period...13000 capacity. Wide open..one of those spots where folks cut loose and the vibe reverberated. The whole show is great....the second set post drums is fantastic.

I'm done scanning the rest of the aud sources, and this one sounds best. I also compared it to the board, and the tone of the guitars are easier on the

ears here. Granted there could be more Phil, but I'm impressed with this copy. As for the show itself, it rocks for sure. Get this!

Man when they play So What by Miles Davis just accept it. Also, Brent always added a great vocal, no two ways about it. His Dr. Mr Fantasy just sets this

period apart, though I think all their era`s were exeptional from Pigpen to Bruce Hornsby. I can tell you though that my favourites are the Acid test shows in 1966, Haight Street 68 and the late 80`s Hampton shows along with my first shows at the Henry J Kaiser at 17 years old in March 88, I flew in from Indiana on springbreak from high school baby and I`ll never forget my first show at the Frost Amphitheatre in 89 on a sunny day and a wonderfully cruisy GD hometown vibe with hundreds of ballons and a couple floats dispersed into the crowd. So, don`t put down the shows after the 70`s because it was a wonderfully looong strange trip!

Actually this type of show is better then a sound board. It's very rich. Hampton show sound real good live, but the recording sometimes don't do the venue
...
justice. This one is perfect. I wish you had copies of the night before like this one.. Comes a Time was played in Roanoke in '87, but who is counting.. Many thanks..

First show. Thank you for upping the kindness gotfob! This trumps the matrix sbd that was used for the Download Series, IMO. The lower end detail is sooo

One of the best shows of the year, finely captured up front with the schoeps - that would be a 5. My soundboard copy had a terrible cut in the Let It Grow
...
so I think this becomes my primary copy of this southern hoedown.
